RULES OF TROTTING. SHORT INTERVAL ABOLISHED. WELLINGTON, February 24. A special meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Conference was held today, when on the motion of the executive committee two important alterations in the rules were made. The first governs intervals between races, the executive desiring that the rule stipulating an interval of 35 minutes lie rescinded,. The president (Mr H. F. Nicoll) said that to adhere to the present interval was inflicting hardship on many clubs which found it impossible with the present out-of-date or inadequate equipment to run a meeting with only 35 minutes between races. The rule was rescinded, and the following substituted: —In no programme of any race meeting, any day of which falls within the period from May 7 in one year to August 31 in the next succeeding racing year, shall the starting time of the last race on any suck day be fixed for a time later than 20 minutes before sunset. The executive’s motion dealing with horsemen’s riding and driving fees was also carried. Rule 245 was deleted, and the following substituted:— In the absence of any special agreement to the contrary, the fees payable to horsemen in relation to the net amount payable to the owner of the winner shall be: To a winning horseman in no case less than £2 if net amount does not exceed £2OO, 5 per centum thereon and £2 10s per centum on any excess. To a losing horseman in no case less than £1; if the net amount exceed £3O, but not £l5O, £2; if the net amount exceed £l5O, £3. The rule now brings .the fees up to the 1931 standard as required under the new regulations. •
