THE MOTOR CYCLE PLATOON. PROPOSAL IN ASHBURTON. The proposal of the Defence Department to form a volunteer motor cycle platoon in connection with the territorial forces in Ashburton will be discussed at a meeting of the Ashburton Motor Cycle Club to-morrow evening, before the club’s social. The Defence Department will he represented by Captain McDuff, of Christchurch, and Lieutenant A. I. Garriock, of Ashburton, who will explain the proposal to- club members and endeavour to enlist their support. It is hoped that about 20 volunteers will be obtained to form the platoon. A, member of the club stated to-day that the proposal would meet with a certain amount of support, and already several members of the club weie considering joining. Motor cycle platoons formed in connection with the territorials in other centres hare already received a fair measure of support.
