FOOTBALL.
ASHBURTON RUG&Y UNION THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE' The Management Committee of the Ashburton Rugby Union met last evening, when there were present Messrs E. S. Chambers (vice-president) who presided, A. Doig, J. 0. C. McLachlan, F. Kennedy, N. Robilliard, G. Day, S. Pennal and D. F. Macdonald. Mr Robilliard reported on the match against North Otago on Saturday. Ho said the game was played at a fast pace, and the score did not actually represent the run of th/> play, as Ashburton had the better of it on several occasions Dropped passes spoilt many passing movements. Mr McLachian said that the distance the team had to travel was too far to expect it to do its best. Several members agreed with this view. Mr Robilliard also reported that the team had visited the Oamaru cemetery, where the captain (J. McKenzie) had laid a wreath on the grave of Mr J. Farr, a former Ashburton representative player. It was decided to thank the North Otago Union for its hospitality. The Ashburton Association Football Club invited members of the union to be present on Saturday to witness the English Cup match against Linwood. The invitation was accepted. it was decided that tht> senior representative team play South Canterbury and the third grade team play Sydenham at the Showgrounds on Saturday, and that a senior Bi team and junior team travel to Southbridge to play Ellesmere. It was also agreed that the junior team should not travel to Timaru to play South Canterbury this jear. Mr- J. McMillan was appointed referee for the senior match, and Mr G. Dalton for the third grade match. The third grade competition was declared. closed, Old Boys being the winners.

BROMLEY JUNIORS BEAT RAKAIA A friendly game of Rugby football, played at Rakaia between the Bromley and Rakaia junior teams, resulted in a win for the visitors by 10 points to 3. Tries for Bromley were scored by T. Richards and H. Puachas. G. Dryden- converted both. The try for Rakaia was scored by W. Honeywell. Mr A. Shannon was the referee. After the match the visitors were entertained to tea by members of the heme team.
