YOUTH SNATCHES WIN, SEASONED TITLE-HOLDER, BEATEN. Brian Fitzpatrick, a slightly built 17-year-old left-hander, on August 9 won the Oatlands Golf Club’s (Sydney) title by defeating It. O. Blackett, the title-hoilder, by 2 up and one to play. Blackett, who is a former Mosman Club champion and is an experienced match player, gave the boy a gruelling test by playing in his best form, but the boy matched all his opponent’s deadliest work and snatched victory in a fine finish with the coolness of a veteran. Len Nettlefold, famous Tasmanian left-holder, who saw Fitzpatrick play in the Southpaw Cup, said: “He has the most perfectly grooved swing that I have ever seen in a left-hander.” Fitzpatrick went in to lunch 2 up. Blackett, however, had squared the match by the twelfth hole in the afternoon. The next three holes were halved in par figures. Fitzpatrick then won the sixteenth with a birdie 3 and the seventeenth with a par 4, for the match.
