WRECK SIGHTED

NO SIGN OF TWO OCCUPANTS. EXTENSIVE SEARCH FAILS. (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 6. The wreckage of the 40-foot launch “Campbell,” which lisa been missing from New Plymouth since Tuesday, was discovered at Albertross Point at the entrance to Kawhia harbour by Flyjng-Officers Kay and Noble, who flew south along the coast from Auckland. There was no sign of the crew, Mr H. G. Robinson, of New Plymouth, and Mr G. Redfern, of Auckland, both single men, in their early twenties. Wreckage was scattered two miles along the beacli, and the hull ivas .badly smashed. The launch left New Plymouth on Tuesday to fish off Kawhai 100 miles north of New Plymouth, and should have returned on Thursday. On receipt of a report from the airmen, Mr H. J. McKain, owner of the launch, with, two carloads of helpers, left promptly for Kawhai to search the beach for possible survivors. The scene of the wreck ]s in a position very difficult of access, involving a launch trip and then 12 miles’ walk or ride over a very rough track. It is possible that the searchers, who were preceded by Constable Horne, of Kawhia, would not reach the scene before nightfall.
BOAT SMASHED BEYOND REPAIR AUCKLAND, September C. No trace lias been found of the two men who were on hoard the missing launch. The boat is smashed beyond repair, two mattresses in the cabin were the only gear on board. Twenty Maoris searched the beach for 20 miles without finding any trace of the missing men. The locality is favoured as a fishing ground by) boats from New Plymouth and Kawhia, and when heavy weather comes up, the boats make for Kawhia.
