DRIVERS’ AWARD.
A FORTY-FOUR-HOUR WEEK. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. As the result of conciliation proceedings last week, substantial agreement lias been reached in the Dominion dispute regarding horse and motor drivers. A 44-hour week was agreed to, but the Court is to he asked to decide the case of drivers employed in connection with industries or establishments where less hours obtain. The Court is also to decide the payment for work done on Sundays by drivers whose employees are controlled by the Transport Licensing Act, and tiie rates of pay of casual workers and extra payment for bakers’ drivers who start before 7 a.m.
The new award will lie in two parts, one covering town carriers and merchants and the other covering drivers employed in goods transport services controlled by the Transport Licensing Act. The wages range from £4 8s to £5 3s.
