YOUTH FOR CHRIST.
SERVICES IN ASHBURTON. CAMPAIGN OPENED YESTERDAY. The Youth for Christ campaign, inaugurated by the Ashburton Ministers’ Association, was opened yesterday with special .sea'vices in the churches taking part. Prayers for the success of the campaign were offered, and .young people took a prominent part in the services. From some of the pulpits special addresses were given to the young people, and in all cases there were good attendances.
The first of the united meetings in connection with the campaign will be held to morrow evening in iSt. Andrew's Hall. The speaker for this first service will be Pastor Stuart Stevens, of the Church of Christ, Moorhouse Avenue, Christchurch. Mr Stevens has held pastorates in various States in Australia, and for four years was president of youth work for his denomination in New South Wales. During his six years of ministry in Geelong (Victoria), more than 300 mombers were added to his church. He was appointed special commissioner by his church to establish a church building and congregation at Canberra. Later he was president of the Churches of Christ in Queensland. Sinco his arrival in Christchurch over five years ago his church has made marked progress, and buildings costing over £3OOO have been erected. He is a gifted speaker and it is confidently anticipated that- his address to-morrow evening will be listened to with great interest and profit. The Rev. R. S. Watson will occupy the chair.
