EIGHT DOGS POISONED.
STRYCHNINE SYMPTOMS SHOWN. LOSSES IN THE BOROUGH. Eight dogs have been said to have been poisoned in the Borough of Ashburton recently, most of them within the last two days. Six of the animals, all of which were pets, died from the poison. All the deaths took place between Moore and Aitken Streets, on the east side of the town. A veterinary surgeon, called in two cases, successfully administered antidotes. In his opinion the symptoms were those associated with, strychnine poisoning, and the poisoning was probably done with dog food to which strychnine was added.
It is an offence to lay poison in any part of the Borough.
