NOT ADEQUATE.

VOTE FOR ENTERTAINMENT. CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE CONGRESS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 18. Speaking on the vote for the Internal Affairs Department in the House of Representatives this afternoon, the Leader of the Opposition (Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) suggested that adequate provision should be made for the entertainment of the delegates to the Congress of thet Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire. He didi not think the vote of £2OOO provided was adequate. These delegates were spending a considerable amount of money to come to New Zealand, and he would like them to think that when they left New Zealand they could say that New Zealand rose to the occasion and that their visit gave them nothing but satisfaction. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) said the Government was anxious that the very best that could be done was done. They might be; able to do more with the Chambers of Commerce assembled in New Zealand than they could do with a Minister of the Crown in London, and if they could make a real job of it on this occasion they would at least assist the Minister in London. He hoped that the Government would not lose any opportunity of developing it to the very fullest extent. The very best that the Government coukl do to make the congress a success would be done. The Hon. W. E. .Parry said thei Department was fully alive to the importance of the visit of the representatives of the Chambers of Commerce. The Government would carry out the policy decided upon by the previous Government. In addition, no stone would be left unturned to give the delegates every possible chance to secure all the information they could of New Zealand, and the Department would see that everything was done to accomplish that, and if any more money was required to carry out the wishes of the Government it would be provided as it would bo foolish to allow the opportunity such as would be offered to pass without taking advantage of it in the interests of the country.
