HOLIDAY ABANDONED.
KING NOT GOING TO CANNES.
CONSIDERATION FOR FRENCH
(United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 115 p.m.) - ,' - 'LONDON. > July 27;.“
In view of events in Spain; King Edward has decided not to take a. holiday at Cannes. He will remainin England as he does not 'Wish» to place a greater burden on those looking after him. A message from Paris states that While the King’s concern for the Te,sponsibili'ties of the French authorities, ‘which have enormously increased on account of the Spanish troubles, is great—ly appreciated, his decision {has caused deep regret as it was hoped that an informal holiday would provide an even closer cementing of Anglo - ‘French friendship, which the ceremony at Vimy Ridge stressed. The Riviera is especially disappointed as his Majesty is personally most popular in the South of France. The King, however, insisted that the French police and other authorities should be completely free to protect French frontiers in case of emergency.
