PROGRESS OF RETICULATION.

REPORTS FROM THE OFFICERS. The Ashburton Elecfiric-Power Board met this morning, when there were present-—-Messr.3 E. I“. Nicoll (chair—man), W. H. Woods, J. Carr, W. G. Gallagher, J. Lambie, R. J. Mulligan, \V. Bryant, H. Morris, H. C. Barton, H. J. Orothel's, \V. H. Rundle, and J. XV. M. Dart. _

' The financial statement showed that - revenue for May (with a comparison , with the figures for May of last year) , was as follows :—~ Domestic £3214 Os 4d (£3174 13s 11d), increase £39 6s sd; commercial £587 10s 6d (£571 2s 2d), increase £l6 83 4d; power £621 (£685 13s 6d), decrease £64: 13s 6d; sundries £49 103 1d (£39 175‘), increase £9 13s 1d; totals £4472 0s 11d (£4471 6s 7d) increase 14s 4d. Revenue for the first two months of the financial year was £7671 5s Bd, compared with £7667 25 3d last year, an increase of £4: 3s sd. The engineer-Secretary (Mr H. G. Kemp) reported : “A total of 9 defective bluegum poles were replaced with ironbark. In addition, defective poles were replaced with Bates steel or steel rails. In four ‘ other cases light poles were replaced by ‘ heavier ones at Methven, Ban-rhill, Valetta, and Hinds. Fifteen poles under the old contract arrived on June 2. N 0 poles on the new contract have yet been received. Lines were changed over on to new poles in the following districts:—~River Terrace, Tinwald; Lauriston 5 .Mitcham-Holmslea; Hanr‘ahan’s extension; Willowby-Hlinds ; Highbank— Barrhill and Hinds Township. A considerable amount of work has been done in alterations and in new services. Eight poles and a transformer were erected to feed a new consumer at Wheatstone. Five extra poles were erected in Ashburton, one at Fairton, one at Montalto and oneat Lanriston. An additional pole was put into Hinds railway crossing. Heavier wire was run in \Vellington Street and Farm Road to improve the supply. A three phase transformer was erected in place of a single phase one to feed Thompson’s wocelshed at Lyndhurst. A burnt out transformer was replaced at Stave—ley. Four single phase transformers were recovered by altering the location of existing transformers and running heavier wire. An additional transformer was erected in Allen’s Road, Ashburton, to improve the supply, also one was erected to supply a new con~ sumer at Seafield. A deviation in the main line in the Hinds township was made to comply with the new 'Main Highway and it involved the moving of the Hinds substation.”

"The running—engineer (Mr A. T. Saunders. deported. that units supplied by Coleridge had tgtalled 756,000, and from the Diesel 3,018; a grand total of 759,018. The Diesel plant was work—ing for 29 hours one minute. during tlllCl month using 298 gallons of crude 01 .

The inspector (Mr W'. G. I\Velsh) reported:— ‘ “The wiring department have again been kept fully occupied on installation work during 'the month and we have received many inquiries for additional extensions to installations. The main items this month are 14: new consumers, seven storage ranges, five water heaters and 10 motors. The new Radiant Hall has been connected andl has fifty one lighting points and three heat points. Two new Neon Signs have been erected and this brings the total of this type of lighting up to four for the district. ’l‘hirty—three installations have been retested during the month, of which 10 required attention. The total now tested is 1963. Ten motors have been connected.”
