THE PRESBYTERY
ASHBURTON MINISTERS MEET. VISIT QF THE MODERATOR. ARRANGEMENT APPROVED. The Ashburton Presbytery met yesterday, the Moderator (the Rev.. .1). D. McLachlan) presiding. It was reported that on Tuesday, May 12, the Rt. Rev. H. H. Barton (Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand) would meet members of the Presbytery at 12 p.m. and attend luncheon with members of the Presbytery and the Presbyterial Association. A communion service would be held in St. Andrew’s Church at 2 p.m. and Mr Barton would address the Presbyterial Association at their afternoon meeting. At -night, in the St. Andrew’s Hall. Mr Barton would give his illustrated lecture on “The Church at Work.” A letter was received from the Moderator of the General Assembly, approving of the plan of his itinerary in the Ashburton County, and stating that he would deliver an illustrated lantern lecture on “The Church at Work,” at the week-evening meetings. It was reported that during the month of May, Mr V. French, secretary of the Christchurch Presbyterian Social Services Association, wcjuld bring a gymnastic team from the Presbyterian Boys’ Home, to give displays at Mayfield, Timvald, Ashburton, Alethven and Rakaia.
The proposed amendment to the regulations regarding unsatisfactory congregations, was approved. The Presbytery placed on record its appreciation of the services rentleied by AD Euan Hamilton, as Home Missionary at Hinds. Reference was made to the opening of the hall at Tinwald on April 8, and the minister of the Ashburton South charge (the Rev. McLachlan) was commended for the zeal and enterprise he had shown in getting the Hall erected.
