M. HENRI CHERON. SPEECH INCIDENT RECALLED. /United Press Association—Copyright' (Received This Day, 12.35 p.m.) PARIS, April 14. M. Henri Cheron, a former Cabinet Minister, is dead. M. Cheron figured in an incident at the War Debts Conference at the Hague in 1929 when Mr (now Viscount) Snowden described some or his statements as “grotesque and ridiculous.” M. Cheron was furious and sent a second to Mr Snowden, who explained that the English words were common parliamentary expressions and did not bear the offensive French meaning, upon which M. Cheron was mollified, MR HENRY NAHR. (Per Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, This Day. Mr Henry Nahr, a brewer, of Westport, died here to-day, aged 60. He was a member of several local bodies. MR D. MoFARLANE. WANGANUI, April 14. Mr David F. McFarlane, a wellknown business man, died to-day, at the age of 70. For 20 years he was chairman of tho Wanganui Girls’ College. He was a prominent Freemason and was a deputy-grand master of the grand lodge. Mr McFarlane was also a justice of the peace and was a prominent bowler. He was a former president of the Wanganui Club and was president of the Garrison Band.
