TWO COMMISSIONERS.
PUBLIC SERVICE CONTROL. ANNOUNCEMENT BY PREMIER. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 10. The control of the public service in New Zealand in future "ill l> e vested in two officers, one to rank as Chief Commissioner, and the other as assistant. This information was given today by the Prime Minister (the Hon. M. J. Savage). “The Cabinet discussed public service control to-day,” said Mr Savage. “No decision was made about appointments, but 1 can say that two, not three, commissioners will be appointed. The appointments will he made by the Government.” This makes an end to the rumours that the Government intended to revert to public service control by three commissioners. It was also mentioned by the Prime Minister that the Government intended to face the problem of regrading the public service, which is long overdue. Consideration would also lie given to retirement from the public service, and superannuation.
