SEQUEL TO BURGLARY. YOUNG MAORI FUGITIVE. BREAKS AWAY AFTER ARREST. (Per Press Association.) WAIPUKURAU, This Day. As yet the search for a young Maori named Martin Peranika, otherwise Bobby Martin, by a posse of 11 mounted police, operating in the Tikokino district, 17 miles from Waipukurau, has proved fruitless. Shortly after midnight on Saturday, Mr J. Vesty gave chase to a man who, it is alleged, he discovered in the act of burgling his home. Early the same morning Mr Vesty and Constable Dawson effected the capture of a Maori, who proved to be Peranika, but he broke away in the darkness. Peranika is armed with a shot-gun and cartridges. He was last seen in an empty house, and, it is stated, pointed the gun aba man who went off for assistance. Constable Moss (Waipawa) and Hasting police are engaged in the search. The 'missing man was charged at Napier recently with • attempted suicide and poisoning, and was convicted and granted probation. He was born at Tikokino, and is familiar with the countryside.
