STUDENT ARRESTED.
MURDER OF TAXI DRIVER. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The police have been inquiring i'oi nearly six months into the death of John Smilie, a taxi driver, aged 40, who was found suffering from bullet wounds in Parramatta Road on the night of September 23. Subsequently he died. It appeared .that .Smilie had been engaged in the city by a young man to drive him to Flemington, a suburb of Sydney, but detectives could not advance any motive for the shooting. Inquiries lately followed a new line and the police visited a city warehouse yesterday and questioned a young strident of chemistry, who subsequently was taken to C.I.D. headquarters. Later, Boyd Sinclair, aged 17, was charged with murdering Smilie.
