Mr J. J. Pooley has been gazetted as returning officer for the Mid-Canter-bury Licensing district. Air J. Oakley, of Ashburton, has been appointed art master at Marlborough College, Blenheim, and will leave next Saturday to take up his duties. The Rev, L. P. Bryan will conduct the services at Spreydon Baptist Church during the week-end, and the Rev. E. W. Goring, of Spreydon, will officiate at the Ashburton Baptist Church. Air 11. E. Herring, ALP., arrived in Wellington this morning to attend to matters in connection with his electorate. He expects to leave Wellington on the inter-island steamer on Monday night. Air George Holmes is gazetted as having been reappointed Honorary Child, Welfare Officer for Ashburton for the current year. The Rev. Harold J. W. Knights, of Rakaia, is also reappointed. A cablegram from Sydney states that Air John Stannage, who ’ was radio operator with Sir Charles Kingsford Smith on historic flights, has accepted the position of technical director of the New Zealand radio organisation of the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour. Air Stannage will leave, for New Zealand next Friday. Air F. M. Laing, who has been transferred from the Ashburton to the Wellington branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, was presented with a pocket wallet this morning by the manager of the Ashburton branch (Air R. B. Lambert) on behalf of members of the staff. Air Laing will leave for the north this evening.
