THE WEATHER.

THREE DEGREES OF FROST. The first frost of the year in Ashburton occurred last evening, after a mild day. Three degrees were recorded at the weather bureau in the Domain. WJarm conditions prevailed to-day, the sun shining brightly from a cloudless sky. There was a light and cool north-easterly breeze. The maximum temperature yesterday was 61.5 degrees, and the inside minimum last night 36 degrees. Barometric pressure at 9 o'clock this morning was 29.95 inches, compared with 29.97 inches yesterday morning. SUNSHINE IN FEBRUARY. The sun shone for 115 hours 6 minutes in February, compared with 150 hours 7 minutes last year. This is a particularly lew total for this month, and is about the average of sunshine in the winter months. ,There was no sunshine on February 8, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 29, and. on five days the sun shone for less than five minutes.

TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. Hie Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: An anti-cyclone is centred east of the Dominion. A shallow depression is still located to the north and another one is advancing across the South Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows : Moderate to fresh north-easterly winds. Weather fine and becoming warmer. Seas slight to moderate.
