MR W, L. BAILUEU. '(United Press Association— Copyright) MELBOURNE, February 7. Advice has been received of the at ain in London of Mr William Lawrence Bailleiu, aged 76 years. He was one of Australia’s greatest industrialists, and was a member of the \ ictumn Parliament for 21 years. DR. WILHELM SOLF. BERLIN, Feb. 6. I)r. 'Wilhelm Solf is dead, at the age of 73. Dr. Solf handled the armistice negotiations as Foreign Minister. He was Governor of Samoa from 1899 to 1911, living in the house in which R. L. Stevenson lived. Nothing grieved Ih*. Solf more than New Zealand’s seizure of Samoa, which he called the “jewel” of the German protectorates. He vowed that the “insolent intruders” would be dealt with 5 but latei in the war he became an advocate of peace by mutual understanding.
