ATTEMPT ON RECORD.
FROM BRITAIN TO CAPE. MR ROSE LEAVES LYMPNE. (United Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, February 6. Mr Tommy Rose left Lympno at 12.25 a.m. in an attempt to break the England to the Cape record. He is using the same machine as that, in which he crashed at Abbeville, in a snowstorm, when he set out on a similar flight on January 7. The aeroplane is fitted with extra petrol tanks, giving it a range of about 1500 miles. RECORD TIME TO MALTA. (Received This Dav, 11.20 a.m.) MALTA, February G. Mr Rose arrived here 45 minutes ahead of the record.
ARRIVAL NEAR CAIRO. (Received This. Day, 12.45 p.m.) LONDON, February 6. Mr Rose landed at Ahnasa, near Cairo, 16 hours 50 minutes after leaving Lvmpne. ANOTHER FLIGHT STARTED. DEMONSTRATION OF CHEAPNESS. (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 6. A few hours after Rose departed, Mr Llewellyn left Hanworth for the Cape in a midget ’plane with a 12-horse-power engine, and a cruising speed of 85 miles an hour. He wants to demonstrate that long-distance Hying is within the means of everyone. The total costs from England to the Cape should not exceed £lO, approximately a halfpenny a irlilc.
