discussions of the committee The Waipiata Sanatorium Committee met at Waipiata. last week. The chairman (Mr E. Macdonald) presided, and Air W. Bryant represented the Ashburton Hospital Board. The Medical Superintendent (IDT. A. Kidd) reported that on January 1 there were 114 patients in the institution, and with the exception of 14, whose condition was stationary, all were doing well or improving. . He recommended as suitable for treatment patients from the following districts: Waitaki 1, South Canterbury 3, Ashburton 4, Southland 10, Wallace 1. He reported that he had arranged for Dr. W. A. Maclaurin (resident medical officer at Balclutha Hospital) to relieve him at the Sanatorium during his absence to Great Britain and Europe, and that he expected to leave the Dominion early in March. The recommendation was approved. The Director-General of Health advised that the Minister had approved the appointment of Miss E. E. Pryor as matron of the Sanatorium. Miss [Pryor, who was assistant matron and tutor sister of the Timaru Hospital, advised that she would take up her duties last Saturday.

The secretary (Mr T. Pryde) reported that at date of meeting the following boards had, patients in the institution:—South Canterbury 22, Southland 46. Ashburton 13, Waitaki 10, South Otago S, Wallace 6, Vincent 6, Maniototo 4 —a total of 116. Of that number 37 had been under treatment for more than 12 months. Since the meeting in November, 16 patients from six hospital districts had been discharged, 13 with the disease arrested or quiescent. The treasurer submitted a statement of finances for the nine months ended December last, which showed an improvement, so far as revenue was concerned, over the previous month, while the expenditure was a little over the amount estimated for the period. It was decided to hold the next meeting in Dunedin on Tuesday, February 2-6.
