NEW ZEALAND UNIVERSITY TEAM. GOOD WIN AGAINST HONG KONG. (United Press Association—Copyright.) /(Receive This .Day, 9.10 a.m.) HONG KONG, January 16. A special correspondent of the United Press Association with the New Zealand University Rugby team, en route to Japan, states that New Zealand won the first game of the tour — against Hong Kong—by 29 points to 8. The team was: Bush, Jones, Fookes, Watt, Gillies, Parsons, McAuliffe, Laney, Burke, Thomas, Drake, Hudson, Chapman, Chesterman and Stace. Scorers for New Zealand were Parsons (two tries), Jones, Gillies ,and Burke (one try each), Gillies potted a goal, and Bush converted all the tries. The Universities' backs showed patches of brilliance, but the forwards were overshadowed in the line-outs. However, they held their own in the scrums, and the team's performance was very creditable considering the rough trip experienced from Manila and the fact that the players landed only a few hours before play. The Governor was present, and the team was presented to him. The visitors were extended splendid hospitality by the New Zealand and Australian Association and the people generally, which is deeply appreciated by the team among their own people. The display is promising for a successful tour of Japan.
