COUNTY CENTRES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) MAYFIELD. The monthly meeting of the Mayfield Women's Institute was held in. the Band Hall, Mrs D. J; Morrow presiuing. Correspondence was received from the secretary of the Dominion Federation in reference to sending a delegate to Washington this year to a confei-ence of the Associated Countrywomen of the World. It was decided to contribute twopence a member for this purpose. The conveners for the circles for the year wore appointed as follow :- —Debating circle, Mrs W. S. Greenslade; garden circle, Mrs George Murdoch; singing circle, Mrs G. A. Meikle; folk dancing, Mrs W. Edis; cooking circle, Mrs G. B. Murdoch ; flower show convener, Mrs W. T. Elmslie; arts and crafts circle, Mrs R, Austin. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on March 25. Mrs E. W. Roberts gave an interesting demonstration on raffia and macrame work and knitting, and exhibited a collection of her work. The following were the Avinners of the competitions:—Bloom : Mrs E. Keen 1, Mrs G. B. Murdoch 2, Mrs D. J. Morrow 3. Decorated bowl of flowers: Mrs George Murdoch 1, Mrs C. Dunstan 2, Mrs W. TV Elmslie 3. Miss M. Riley (secretary), who will shortly be married, was a guest of honour, and was presented with a posy by Mrs W. Edis, and for the members the president asked Miss Riley to accept a' crystal salad dish, wishing her much happiness in her married life. The hostesses were Mesdames George Murdoch, R. Fisher and the Misses Wright and Ellery. In December rain fell on seven days, the heaviest fall being 126 points, which "tell on December 28. A total of 193 points was recorded for the month.
