STANDARDISATION.
THE PRINCIPLES DISCUSSED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 10. The principles of standardisation were discussed by .representatives of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation, the New Zealand Standards Institution and the heads of various Government departments, at a conference to-day called by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan). Addressing the conference, Mr Sullivan said he desired first of all to facilitate tho building up of efficient manufacturing industries in New Zealand and at the same time provide products of high quality for the people at a cheap price. It seemed to him that standardisation, wisely applied, could be one of the foundation stones on which to build successful local industry. He emphasised the need for the full co-operation of manufacturers, large purchasing organisations, and tho trade and commerce sections of the community, as he did not think that the Government should bear tho whole burden. What was needed was a unifietj, attack on problems in such a way that all parties would help wholeheartedly and financially. Representatives of both the Manufacturers' Federation and the Standards Institution spoke, and a number of motions were carried.
