METHODIST CHURCH.
THE ASHBURTON CIRCUIT. QUARTERLY MEETING HELD. The quarterly meeting of the Ashburtpn Methodist Church Circuit was held last evening, the Rev. G. R. Hinton presiding over a good attendctllCG. Membership showed a decrease on the quarter by nine transfers and three deaths. Letters of sympathy and good cheer were reported to have been sent to many during the quarter. Several new officials were welcomed by the chairman. The youth work report showed good results, and also the value of the new organisation set'up three years ago. High appreciation of the service rendered by Mr H. M. Denton, as secretary, was expressed by the meeting. The allocation of nearly £l2 to the Youth Department had been fully met. (Special Sunday offerings were granted to the Wakanui Trust and Baring Square Trust. It was reported that the orphanage collectors would bo busy during the quarter, and that harvest festivals would be held, in March. Mr K. Fowko, Foreign Mission secretary, reported that nearly £IOD had been sent forward, an increase of £2 on last year. A committee was set up to approach members and adherents concerning the envelope system of helping the church finances. Mr F. Frampton and Dir HI. Money were re-elected circuit stewards, and Air F. Frampton was elected as representative to conference, with Mr F. Steel as substitute. The chairman stated that the conference would he held in Christchurch, opening on February 13. It was decided that the next quarterly meeting take place at Wakanui on April 1. Supper was served.
