MINERS’ WAGES.
QUESTION OF ADVANCES. OFFERS BY THE' OWNERS. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.5. a.m.) LONDON, January 8. Representatives of the colliery owners met representatives of the Mine Workers’ Federation to-day and placed before them offers of increases of wages which had been formulated by the owners in the various districts. The men’s representatives reported to their executive committee this evening and a further joint meeting will take place to-morrow. The offers vary from district to district in about nine areas. It is suggested that the advances are Is for adults, while 9d is offered in three others. In three districts an advance of 6d is proposed, and in two others 5d a shift, per adult worker. The original claim put forward by the men’s union was for an increase of 2s a shift for adults and Is for juveniles.
In Scotland and Nottinghamshire advances of 9d and Is respectively are already in force.
