TOURIST TRAFFIC
MINISTER'S HOPES FOR FUTURE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 6. Gratification at the complimentary remarks of visiting tourists concerning the efficiency and expedition of Tourist Department officers was expressed by the Hon. P. Langstone, Minister in charge of the Tourist and Publicity Department, in an interview to-day. "There is such a variety of sights worth seeing that our officers have no difficulty in arranging tours," he said,
"but much as we desire it we are not able, to induce cruise ships to stay longer in our waters. If it could be arranged for visitors, particularly those from Australia, to come here by one ship and return by a later ship, then those who desired a more leisurely round of sight-seeing could indulge their wish. However, up to the present it has not been possible to arrange this, although we are hopeful that it will be accomplished soon. "I. feel certain that if the shipping companies would reduce fares between Australia and New Zealand, it would help very materially to develop tourist traffic between the sister Dominions."
