RELIEF WORKS STRIKE.
TWO GANGS OF MEN OUT. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 6. Unemployed men who were to begin work on tho Ashley River protective works to-day under the Unemployment Board's new full-time contract scheme went on strike. It is understood that they are not satislied with tho prices quoted for the work. The rates are stated to ensure a minimum of 12s a day. There are. two camps, one of about 180 men from Rangiora, and the other of about 100 men from Christchurch. The Christehurch men struck first, and when the Rangiora men received this news they struck also. They all assembled later, elected a committee, and endeavoured unsuccessfully to arrange an interview with the Minister (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong).
