PERSONAL.
Mr J. Chas Thompson (organist and choirmaster of St. Stephen's Church) left this morning to spend his vacation with friends at Timaru. He was accompanied by his wife and daughter.
Mr J. W. Timmins, of Waikouaiti, is visiting Ashburton. Mr Timmins was a resident of Ashburton in the early part of the century, and was for some years a partner in the firm of Mitchell and Turner.
Mr E. J. O'Brien (district manager of the Public Trust Office, Ashburton) will commence leave for five weeks today. His place will be taken by Mr H. G. Smart, of the Christchurcb office, and fomerly of Ashburton.
Steady improvement is reported in the condition of Mrs Walter Raphael, of Christchiirch, who was injured in a motor-car accident near Oxford on New Year's Eve, when Mr F. C. Godfrey, formerly a resident of Ashburton, was killed. ' Mrs Raphael is a sister of Mr R. Stephenson and Mrs W. Sparrow, of Ashburton.
