EMPIRE BROADCASTS.
NEW STATION AT DAVENTRY IMPROVEMENT IN RECEPTION. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Received Phi's Day, 12.40 p.m.) LONIDON, January 2. Discussing plans for developing Empire broadcasting, Sir Noel Ashbridge (chief engineer to the British Broadcasting Corporation) says that the new station to be established at Daventry will use 13 beams directed to various parts of the Empire. “After two years’ experimenting,” said Sir Noel, “we have narrow beams, which service various countries, in order to increase the signal strength. Though the new beam is not sharply defined, it will cover an area of roughly 40 degrees, compared with 70 degrees formerly. Tins will necessitate using a greater number of transmissions to cover the same area. It is expected that the new station will be completed in 15 months. ; The Associate dress is informed that reception in Australia consequently will benefit equally with other Dominions.
