PERSONAL.
Mr A. B. Lane (manager of the United Press Association, Wellington) arrived in Ashburton to-day. He will go to Christchurch to-morrow. Mrs James Russell, wife of the director of Education in Fiji, has been created a member of the civil division of the Order of the British Empire (says a cablegram from Suva). Mr L. C. Christie, accountant of the Dunedin branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has been promoted to the audit and relieving staff of the bank with headquarters in Wellington. Mr Christie, who attended the Ashburton High School, joined the bank’s staff about 20 years ago.
