AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB. GRAHAM direct wins cup. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 27. Fine weather prevailed for the opening of the Auckland Trotting Club’s summer carnival at Alexandra Park to-day, when there was a large attendance. The track was in excellent order and keen racing was witnessed. The totalisator handled £34,884, against £30,789 on the corresponding day last year, an increase of £4095. The Cup was won in good style by Graham Direct, first fancy, and the trophy and whip were presented to the trainer-driver, F. Holmes, by the Prime Minister. Results:— December Handicap of 130 sovs; One mile and a quarter.—3 (3) Ranfurly Lass 1,2 (2) Lynwortliy 2, 1 (1) Baron Alfonso 3. Won by a length; half a length between second and third. Aerial Bell was fourth. Time 2min 50 2-ssec. Grandstand Handicap, of 275 sovs; One mile and a half.—2 (2) Grace McEhvyn 1, 4 (4) Sure 2, 1 (1) Bingen Palm 3. BROUG HSHANE WINS DOUBLE. WESTPORT, December 27. The Westport Trotting Club’s meeting was concluded in fine weather before a large attendance. The sum of £5239 was put through the totalisator against £4lßl 10s last year, making a total for the meeting of £10,563, against £8896, an increase of £1667.
