ASHBURTON TROTS. THE CONCLUDING EVENTS. Everything favoured success for the Ashburton Trotting Club’s summer meeting yesterday, and the Club took every advantage of them. The weather was 'hot and the attendance was very large, all parts of Canterbury being represented. The track was in the best oi older, and was very fast. The meeting went through smoothly, and patrons were amply catered for m every department. 'I he totalisator handled £21,751, compared with £17,203 at the 1934 meeting. After the smash in the fifth race, the stewards recommended that Cream Harvester, which was the cause of the trouble, should be placed on the schooling- list. The excellence of the management, under the supervision of the president (Mr H. F. Nicoll) and the secretary (xYfr J. 13. Nicoll), was demonstrated in the manner in which the schedule of 35 minutes between events was maintained, despite two presentations after races. The concluding events were:— MIDSUMMER HANDICAP, (Harness), of 150 sovs; second horse 30 sovs, and third horse 15 sovs from the stake. For horses that can do 3.39 or better. After the dust had cleared away following a bad smash at the end of the straight, there was not much of a race. Cream Harvester led past the stand, and then fell, bringing down Sky Wink, Wheat Pool, Plutus and Oversight. Gallant Knight went out to the front from Trireme, Shadow Queen, Lady Hannah and ( Royal Crescent. Gallant Knight led into the straight from Shadow Queen, both horses being well out in front from Lady Hannah and Trireme. Gallant Knight won by two lengths from Shadow Queen, while Lady Hannah was third, three lengths back. The mix-up was a most spectacular one, sulkies, men and horses being thrown into a struggling mass. Cuddle was responsible for a brilliant performance in the Cup race, when she led all the way to win in a canter with a record weight and in time which set a record for the race.
