A CONVERSAZIONE
HIGH SCHOOL OLD GIRLS MEET. AN ENJOYABLE FUNCTION. Old girls of the Ashburton High School held a most enjoyable conversazione at the school last evening, the function being attended by a large number of former girls. Miss Majorie Barr, on behalf of the old .girls, expressed the pleasure they felt at having an opportunity to entertain the present girls at such a function. She appealed to them to support the Old Pupils’ Association. Special appeals for support were made on behalf of the Old Girls’ Basketball Club, by Miss Margot Watt, the Old Girls’ Hockey Club, by Miss Marie Carson, and the Old Girls’ W.E.A, Group, by Miss Mollie Morrison. The president of the Association (Mr E. A. Cockroft) thanked the committee of old girls for arranging the function, and indicated how girls could assist the Association and the school when they left. Miss Joan Cookson (head girl) thanked the old girls on behalf of the present pupils and assured them of the support and interest of those shortly to become old girls. The following programme was given: Demonstration of competition, folk dances and drill by senior pupils; piano duet, Misses M. Watt and G. Woods; vocal solo, Miss L. Acton; violin solo, Mrs A. G. McHardy; descant quartette, four senior pupils; tap dance, old pupils; play, “The Poison Party,” presented by the Sixth Form playreading group; vocal duet, Mesdames W. Thomas and H. D. Gunn; song, With violin obligato, Miss H. Drummond and Mrs A. G. McHardy; bracket of songs, school girls.
