Taylor (a vice-president) presiding. - The match committee recommended that the. association engrave the junior shield with the names of each winner each season, and that when all: the miniature plates on the shield are engraved they be handed to the respective‘ winning clubs and replaced on the shield by the association. The recommendation was adopted, and it was decided that the record of matches since the commencement of the junior competition should be completed. . NlcKezlge’s trophy was allocated to the senior men’s singles event, and he was also thanked for his donation. It was agreed to donate a miniature cup for the junior men’s singles event. Arrangements for trophies for other events were also made. ‘ Mr D. A. Lawson brought up two matters- on behalf of the Me-thven Club. The club considered! that glayers who

Iwere not ready. to commence play at the specified time at the tournament should be liable to disqualification. Events had been held up because players were not ready when their matches were called. It was decided that clubs should be circularised advising players that those late would be liable to be scratched. The Methven Club also considered that some of the junior umpiring last year was not altogether satisfactory, and some complications {had inadvert—ently arisen. The trouble usually occurred in allowing for handicap points. It was agreed that, with a view to improving the standard of umpiring in the junior grade, each affiliated club should be asked to nominate, prior to (the tourney, twocompetent persons to act as umpires for both- days. new scum WALES! T‘OURNEY. 1 NEW ZE’ALANDERS D 0 WELL. i } SYDNEY, November 13. There was a big programme of eventsiu the New South Wales tennis championships to-day. The courts were heavy. Miss Nicholle reached her best form when she beat Miss Dingle in a. hard-hitting match. She mixed her game, with good-length drives and short-cropped shots, and had Miss Din—gle running from side to side, and Working her out of position, scored with cross-court placements. The strong forehand drives of the Victorian representative, Miss Stevenson were too formidable for Miss I. Poole, who, after a nervous start, played steadily. ,Almost every point in the match between Mrs Hopman and Miss Miller was strenuously contested. The New Zealander played .‘very well against her experienced opponent, whose shots down the sidelines were the deciding factor. v In the doubles, Misses Nicholls and Beverley concentrated on keeping the ball in play, waiting for their opponcuts to make mistakes. This was a dull match. The Poole sisters were outclassed. In the men’ s doubles, the title—hold—ers, Crawford and McGrath, were extended to the utmost by a. young pair who have made a great impression in recent tournaments. .- Results: ». , Men’s Singles. ‘ .
