RAINFALL STEADILY MOUNTING. 27.7 INCHES FOR YEAR. TO DATE. ; Generous falls of rain in Ashburton ‘this month are steadily bringing the total for the year up to that for the same period of 1934. Up to date, 27 .7 inches have fallen since January 1, compared with 30.66 inches for the same period last year and 19.6 inches in 1933. . For the first 10 months of this year the. rainfall was 24.56, inches, against 30.3 inches last year and only 15.77 inches in November, 1933. November two years’ago was also a. partieiflarly wet month, and. in the first fortnight 3.83 inches were registered. ‘ As a .result of the- heavy showers yesterday over half'an inch- was re-‘ corded, the gauge at the Domain weather station reading 56 points. This makes the total for November so far 3.14 inches. ‘ A Slight Improvement. T'o-day broke fine, and the temperature was less cold than yesterday, the wind: having vgeercd to the north-east. The sky clouded over about mid-day, however, and conditions did not appear very settled. ' . The barometer stood at 29.79 inches this morning, yesterday’s reading being 29:55 inches. . Another depression, however, is located on the western Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Damaru: is as follows:- i Light variable winds, later tending‘ north-easterly.
