MORE HEAVY RAIN ANOTHER 24 POINTS RECORDED Heavy rain was experienced in Ashburton again last night, and a further 24 points were registered up to 9 o’clock this moflning. The fall for the month is steadily rising although only 12 days have so far gone by. The rain continued to-day with many heavy showers. A cold southwesterly wind prevailed. The bnrometpr has fallen again, this morning’s reading being 29.36 inches as against 29.56 inches yesterday morning. Maximum and minimum temperatures in the last 24 hours were 50.2 degrees and 42.1 degrees.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: A depression still covers the Dominion, its centre lying over the Cook Strait area. A slight anti-cyclone is moving slowly across the Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Moderate to fresh southerly winds. Weather cold and cloudy, with rain at times. Seas rather rough.
