FURTHER MISTY RAIN. Further misty rain fell in Ashburton early this morning and throughout the day. The sky was overcast, and a cold southerly wind prevailed. The barometric pressure at 9 a.m. was 29.76 inches, and extreme temperatures yesterday and last night were 59.7 degrees and 46.8 degrees. Four points of rain were recorded up to 9 o’clock.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: A cyclonic depression still covers the North Island, but has decreased somewhat in intensity. An anti-cyclone is advancing from eastern Australia on to the Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Moderate to strong southerly winds, reaching gale force at places north of Banks Peninsula. Weather cold and cloudy, with scattered vain, heavy in parts of Kaikoura and Marlborough districts. Seas rough.
