POPULAR ASSISTANT CONTEST.
RESULTS OF THE FOURTH. LAP The popular assistant contest promoted by the Advance Ashburton Association (sports, section) has completed its fourth lap, or week, and the leaders at noon on Saturday were Miss M. Henderson (Havelock Coal Supply), Mrs P. Totty (Totty’s), and Miss J. Fitzgerald (Segers’, Ltd.). There is every indication that concentrated efforts are ibeing arranged to advance the prospects of candidates new to lists already published, and it is said that a number of retail firms will promote social functions with the object of pushing the candidature of selected competitors. In some quarters the contest is being made an important civic duty and it is anticipated that the scheme will be the means of bringing in a fairly large sum of money. As there are only three weeks left there should be a concentration of efforts. .
