JOURNEY THROUGH ASHBURTON MOST RIDERS GOING WELL. Riders in the big event reached Ashburton.'in - fairly good time. Expected about 12.30 p.m., the first bunch of five competitors checked in at 12.47 o’clock. There was a steady northwesterley wind blowing but this proved of assistance along the Maronan Road from Rangitata to Ashburton. Although they had travelled about 87 miles, most of tlio riders were looking very! fresh and were going well. It was anticipated that the time of the winners would be good. There were numerous spectators in East Street to watch tho riders go through the town, the largest number gathering at the milk and check station near South Street, superintended by Mr L. S. Hopkins. A number of contestants from tho back marks soon began to catch up on the limit men and as will be seer, from the following times there was seme good mixing.
