THE LONDON WOOL SALES.
THE CLOSING RATES. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, October 5. At the wool sales 5992 bales wefe offered, including 1814 New Zealand, and about 4540 Australian and New Zealand were sold. New Zealand greasy halfbreds, M.A.C., made up to lOJdi, with an average of lOd; greasy crossbreds up to 9£d, with an average of B£d. Although the series opened poorly, the need for immediate supplies brought merinos to the July levels at the close. Crossbreds were unable to maintain their position. An excellent selection was absorbed, principally by Home buyers, supported by the 'Continent, which displayed great interest. Compared with the July closing rates merinos, greasy super style spinner, .advanced by 5 per cent., topmilking fleeces were at par, scoured bulky, helped by Russian and Continental competition, advanced by 5 per cent., . but smaller scoureds receded from par to 5 per cent., .crossbreds declined 5 per cent., and medium 5 to 10 per cent. Slipes recovered to par. The total catalogued was 134,178 bales, and there were sold: Home, 63,500; Continent, 48,500- held, 68,000. The total sales of Australian wero 54,000, and of New Zealand 50,000.
