Mr W. H. Amos, of Ashburton, is attending a. tourist conference at Queenstown.

A vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr J. Connolly, M.P.. was passed at the meeting of the MidCanterbury- Provincial Executive of the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union.

Regret at the indisposition of the Rev. Basil Taylor, of Hinds, is expressed in the “Church News.” Mr Taylor, who has been combining half of the Tinwald district with his own parish since the retirement of tlieJßev. D. Rankin, will following medical advice, rest for about six weeks.

Lieutenant-Commissioner F. H. Adams and Mrs Adams (territorial commanders of the Salvation Army in New Zealand) will arrive in Ashburton to-morrow morning to dedicate and present the new instruments to the Ashburton Salvation Army Band. They will be the guests of Mr and Mrs W. G. Gallagher during their stay in the town.

The Rev.- H. A. Childs arrived at Tinwald yesterday to take charge of the Anglican parish following the departure of the Rev. D. Rankin to live in retirement >t Tauranga. Mr Childs will conduct the services to-morrow, and will be inducted as v vicar of the parish by the Ven. Archdeacon A. J. Petrie on Monday.

A minute of appreciation of the work and ministry of the Rev. D. D. MacLachlan, of the Tinwald Presbyterian charge, during his six years at Waikaka Valley, Southland, was recorded by the Presbytery of Mataura at its meeting in Gore on Thursday. Submitted by the Rev. W. G. Hannah, the minute reviewed Mr MacLachlan’s work and wished him every success in his new sphere. This was the Presbytery’s first opportunity of expressing its appreciation of his work since His departure two- months ago, as its meetings were held bi-monthly.
