SPRING FLOWERS

RAKAIA’S ANNUAL DISPLAY.

A GOOD STANDARD. The annual spring flower show of the Rakaia Horticultural Society was held in the Town Hall. Although the season has been far from ideal, the standard of exhibits was good. Good entries were received in all classes.

The judges were: Out flowers and vegetables, Mr and Mrs Clark (Tinwald); miscellaneous, Miss Elsie Richards (Rokeby) •, school work, Mr S. Drew (Barrhill).

A cup, given by Mr J. Connolly, M.P., for most points in cut flowers (open) was won by W. A. Smith. The Harrison Vase for most points in cut flowers (amateur) was won by Mrs W. Cromie. Miss Elsie Richards’ special prizes for most points in miscellaneous classes v ere both won by Mrs H. C. Page. The refreshment room was in the charge of Alesdames Nelson, Liddington, 0. Shannon, Saunders, Mead and helpers. Mr G. S. Hardy, president of the society, referred to the loss to the district by the death of Mr J. Connolly, M.P., and asked all present to stand in silence as a. mark of respect. Awards were as follow:
