Lindsay (Auckland) beat Muir (Southland). Mitchell, of Rakaia, made a plucky showing against the veteran Richmond, of Otago; but the latter was too experienced for him, and the referee was compelled to stop the bout before a round had gone. The Ashburton lad, Guthrie, showed evidence of having been properly taught, and used a nice stopping. left to good advantage; but his opponent, Leydon, of Oam3.ru, is a southpaw, and his unorothodox methods had Guthrie thinking. One of Guthrie’s eyes was closed early in the second round, and as it would obviously! have been asking too much of a game little fighter to make him continue, the referee stopped the contest, and awarded the decision to Leydon on a technical knockout.

PLAN TO IMPORT BOXERS.

TIME NOT OPPORTUNE. DUNEDIN, October 3. The question of professional fight promotion was fully discussed at the annual meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Boxing Association, when a. remit was brought forward that the New Zealand Council should be asked to import boxers with the idea of creating a circuit with all affiliated associations throughout New Zealand. The opinion was generally expressed that fhe time was not opportune for such a move, and the remit was defeated.

On behalf of Hawke’s Bay, Mr Parker mo.ved the remit and stated it was thought the adoption of the remit wouldi create fresh interest among professionals.

Mr EL D. Johnston (Ashburton) said that Southland was the association which seemed to be doing the importing but if the various associations paid into a pool it would be possible to bring fiye or six boxers instead of one or two as at present. The question was raised as to whether associations would be prepared to stage contests if a professional were defeated in his first appearance <at one particular centre. The Southland delegate said lie did not think such wouldi be the case. Southland had brought oyer B ; rander and he had been defeated

twice. Any other association could now draw upon his services if it desired. The secretary (Mr Aldridge) said that if the remit were carried the larger associations would be saddled with expense. Mr Rigg (Auckland) said that if the association wished to bring boxers over it should be prepared to assume financial responsibility. Mr Kilmartin (Otago) opposed - the remit. He did not think the New Zealand Council would become a promoting body. If boxers were willing to accept the same system of percentage purses as wrestlers it would be all right, but the first thing a professional boxer asked was: “What was he going to get?”
