THE LIST ANNOUNCED. (Per Press Association.) * AUCKLAND, October 1. The leader of the Democrat political party (Mr % C. A. Hislop) to-night announced the party’s candidature for the general election as follows: Kaipara—J. Caughley, late Director of Education. Auckland City Seats—The following have been selected, but the seats have not been named: J. B. Donald, former Postmaster-General; T. Lamont, late Mayor of Devonport; J. Stallworthy, M.P. Manulcau —H. Thornley, Returned Soldiers’ Association chaplain, a retired clergyman. Hauraki —S. Pickards, former president of the Hauraki Reform League. Auckland Suburbs —W. Clark, accountant. Thames—P. Keegan, retired farmer. Hamilton H. D. Caro, merchant and Deputy-Mayor of Hamilton. Rotorua —Professor H. H. Mr Hislop will contest a seat in Wellington, although it lias not yet been announced which one. A statement announcing the candidates says: “We have chosen candidates for the four Maori seats, and in in addition to these names there are 12 seats where we have two or more candidates offering. Selections are now being made. ■ ‘ “In addition we will support Mr ±l. M. Rushworth, M.P., Bay of Islands, Mr A. E. Mansford, Mayor of Palmerston North, Mr W. D. Lysnar, of Gisborne. We will not oppose Mr R. A. Wright, M.P., in Wellington Suburbs, Mr A. A. McLaclilan, in Ivaiapoi, Mi W Downie Stewart, M.P., in. Dunedin West, and Sir Alexander Herdman, m Parnell. This accounts for 70 seats, so within the next fortnight we wiU have the full SO seats accounted tor/ THE HURUNUI SEAT.

MR 0. DUFF A CANDIDATE. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Mr 0. Duff (editor of the “North Canterbury Gazette,” Raugiora) has decided to contest the Hurunui seat at the parliamentary election as an Independent. He gave his decision yesterday afternoon to a representative deputation which waited upon him requesting that lie should contest the seat. Mr Duff told the deputation that his candidature would be free of all party affiliations.
