MINING DISPUTE

NOTICE TO THE EMPLOYERS. TROUBLE AT MARTHA GOLD MINE. ABOUT 650 MEN INVOLVED. (Per Press Association). WAIIH, This Day. Having failed to reach a new industrial agreement with the Martha Gold Mining Company, of Waihi, Ltd., the employees at a. mass meeting decided to serve the company with seven days’ notice to cease work next Monday at midnight. A resolution also was passed expressing appreciation of and confidence in, the efforts of the Union delegates to bring about a, settlement. The decision has caused general uneasiness in the town but it is anticipated that there will be a further conference between the disputants within the next few days and that a settlement will be arrived at.

The number of men involved will be about 650, of whom approximately 450 are employed' in and about the Waihi mine and the others at the company’s battery at Waikino.
