THE WEATHER
OVERCAST SKIES. Strong northerly winds made conditions unpleasant in Ashburton yesteiday, despite a strong sun. The sky clouded over in the night and remained so. to-day, with the indications pointing to north-west winds, but there was only a light breeze. The barometer has gone down again, reading at 29.8 y inches this morning. The temperature maximum yesterday was 61.7 degrees, and the lowest reading in the night was 36.6 degrees.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: An anticyclone, centred east of the North Island, is moving slowly eastwards and a- westerly depression extends across the Tasman Sea on to southern Ney Zealand. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamani is as follows: — Moderate but freshening northerly to northwesterly winds. Weather mainly fair to cloudy and mild, but showers likely in hill country. Seas moderate.
