EFFORTS TO REVIVE INTEREST.
DRASTIC ACTION ADVOCATED.
ELECTION OF THE OFFICERS
The annual meeting of the Ashburton Fanciers’ Society was held last evening, when Air W. H. Robinson (president) presided oyer the largest number of members who have attended the annual meeting for some years. The balance-sheet showed' that the year began with a debit of £l2 7s 4d and closed with a credit of £2B 17s 3d, after £4O had been transferred from tlie tropby fund and £29 from che general account. The sum of £133 18s 6d had been paid l out in prizes. Entryfees for the show totalled £llO 8s fid and admission fees £57 Is.
The annual report stated that as it was felt by many members of the committee that drastic action should be taken to revive interest in the Winter Show £2O was transferred from _ the trophy fundi account for additional prizes. The society received £2l 14s as its share of the profits from the gala held in conjunction with the Ashburton Silver Band. The assets had decreased by £29 7s 5d due to increased expenditure for the Winter Show and writing down fittings. The show was a pronounced success, entries totalling 1371, while there was an increase in attendances. A suggestion has been made that the dog section be limited to one day, in which case the committee had been assured of increased entries next year. The committee was satisfied that the increase in prize fund had been fully justified and it was confident that the affairs of the society were definitely improving.

Nicoll moved : ■ ■ “That the trophy fund account shall not exceed £IOO, any amount in excess of this sum to he transferred to the general account.” _ The motion was seconded by Air K. Glenie, and) carried. Suggestions that side-shows be conducted in conjunction with the next show, and that the society initiate a movement for several sports bodies and societies to combine for the purpose of erecting a liall or building for holding functions in the town were mane by Mr W. K. Waters. A motion of sympathy was passed with Air G. Bundy, a former president of the society, in his illness. Air G. H. Nicoll was elected chairman of the committee.
