ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET. MORE FAT SHEEP PENNED. AVERAGE QUALITY CHEAPER. There was an improvement in the number of fat sheep penned at the Ashburton salevards to-day, when the weekly sale was held in fine weather. Good sorts held their own, but average quality slipped back a little compared with prices last week. Bidding was keen for the primest lots. J. Moore (Ruapuna) was the mos't successful vendor of fat wethers, receiving 80s 4d for four, 29s Id for five, and 28s 4d for four, while the estate of W. J. Allan (Ruapuna), got 27s 7d for five. In the fat ewes H. J. Wilson (Dromore) got 27s Id for five, and J. Cox (Eiftelton) received the same price for seven, and 26s 7d for five. Mr Wilson got 26s Id for two, and 25s 3d for one. A hogget sold on account of A. S. Butterick (Greenstreet) brought 255. Shorn wethers—On account client, 7 at 20s Id, 8 at 19s Id, 6 at 17s 7d. Hoggets—On account A. S. Butterick (Greenstreet), 1 at 255. Cattle—Two particularly nice cows were included in the cattle offered. One on account of J. W. Butterick (Wakanui) brought £7 12s 6d, and R. Burrows (Elgin) got £7 10s. Other cows sold at from £5 15s down to £4.

Fat steers ranged from £2 10s to £5 10s, while a line of; seven heifers sold at £4 12s 6d each, and prices for young stuff were as follow:—Two heifers £2 15s each, two runners £1 17s 6d each, 1 ditto £1 10s, two m.s. calves £1 each, and two yearling heifers 11s each.

THE LONDON WOOL SALES FULL RATES MAINTAINED At the wool sales 10,148 bales were offered including 2,221 New Zealand, and about 8,400 Australian and New Zealand were sold. There was brisk Bradford and Continental competition at full, rates.

New Zealand slipe ha If bred lambs, “Kaiapoi” brought up to 133 d with an average of 12d.

On the Bradford market Merinos are tending in buyers’ favour. Crossbreds are steady.
