BOUND BY GOLD CHAIN.
DEPOSED KING OF ABYSSINIA.
PRECAUTIONS AGAINST ESCAPE
(Received This D'ay, 9.10 a.m.) ADDIS ABABA, September 23.
Presumably fearing that he might be useful in Italy’s hands, the Emperor has tightened the precautions to prevent the escape of Lijjassou, the deposed King of Abyssinia, who has been a prisoner for' 12- years in a mountain fortress. Jassou, who is the figurehead of Ethiopian Moslems, is permitted any luxury, including champagne, literature and a gramophone, but he is linked by a gold chain on the wrist with his guard, who is threatened death if his charge escapes.
